Art Vision
At Westminster CofE Primary Academy, we believe in providing our children with rich and meaningful learning experiences, which build their enthusiasm for learning and enable them to lead a fulfilled life, contributing to the community and beyond.
Art has intrinsic value and can be a powerful lever for social justice. Art is a creative subject, accessible to all, enabling our children to think imaginatively, observe and explore the world around them, ask questions and express their thoughts and feelings. Art creates a positive atmosphere and gives children the opportunity to express themselves in a safe space while encouraging better health and wellbeing.
Our children will use the visual and tactile qualities of art to develop their vocabulary. There will be opportunities for our children to continue their learning outside the classroom in museums, sculpture parks and art galleries to experience art in different forms. Our children will explore the work of great artists from a range of cultures and historical periods, including art by women and people of colour, enabling them to appreciate and understand the world around them and reflect on how Art and Design shapes our history and contributes to the culture of our nation.
Our children will experiment with materials and processes in order to develop skills in drawing, painting and sculpture. They will describe, ask questions, become critical thinkers and explainers so that they are ready to continue their journey to secondary school and beyond.
